IP Address Validator: IPv4 and IPv6

Check the syntax of a bare IPv4 or IPv6 address and see its normalized form and special-purpose classification.

Processing happens in this page without contacting the entered address. Tool pages do not load ads or analytics; inputs are not saved or added to the page URL.

How to use this tool

Enter a dotted-decimal IPv4 or IPv6 literal. IPv4 octets must be 0–255 with no leading zeros. Classification uses the longest matching entry in a stored IANA registry snapshot, with multicast handled separately.

Registry entries describe special purposes, not the actual assignment, reachability, location or safety of a device. Registry absence is not proof of a public service.
