URL Query Parameters Explained
A URL query starts after ?. Web applications often interpret it as ordered name/value pairs separated by &, but the meaning of each parameter belongs to the application.
Examples at a glance
https://example.com/search?tag=ip&tag=url&empty=&q=hello+world
Repeated values
- First pair
tag=ipFirst value for tag.
- Second pair
tag=urlAnother value for the same name; keep both.
Empty values
- Blank value
empty=The parameter is named empty; its value is an empty string.
Decoded values
- Encoded pair
q=hello+worldIn form-style query parsing, + represents a space.
- Decoded value
hello worldThe decoded value of q.
Keep repeated keys
tag=ip&tag=url contains two tag values. Converting the query directly into a single object can silently lose one. The analyzer preserves every pair in order.
Blank and encoded values
empty= has an empty value. A bare empty parameter name can also occur. URLSearchParams decodes + as a space and %2B as a literal plus. The raw encoded query remains available separately.
Do not paste secrets unnecessarily
Applications sometimes place tokens or personal details in query parameters. Our analyzer does not fetch the URL, but displays query values; remove sensitive information before using examples or screenshots.
