Read NFT identifiers from an item URL
An NFT item URL can include the network, contract address and token ID. Treat the URL as a clue and confirm all fields in the item details and official mapping.
Worked example
| Illustrative path | Component | Check |
|---|---|---|
| /assets/ethereum/CONTRACT/42 | ethereum | Network label |
| CONTRACT | Full address placeholder | Compare with official collection |
| 42 | Illustrative token ID | Confirm on the item page |
Parse the path, not the artwork
Some marketplaces use routes with chain and contract segments; others use slugs or internal identifiers. Read the destination domain and visible fields rather than assuming every platform has the same URL grammar.
A copied URL is not identity evidence by itself
A look-alike page can construct a plausible path with a copied name. Start from the official project’s linked collection, then inspect the full address. Never treat a URL fragment or truncated address as the complete contract.
Common pitfalls
- The path shown here is an annotation, not a live asset link.
- A collection URL may have no token ID at all.
