How to verify an NFT collection contract identity
Confirm collection identity using a project-owned contract mapping or official collection link, then corroborate the exact network and address on an explorer or marketplace.
Worked example
| Evidence | Useful field | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Project-owned publication | Collection name mapped to full contract | May describe a specific version |
| Explorer/marketplace | Same address, chain and collection label | Labels can be incomplete |
| Source-code verification | Source matching deployed bytecode | Does not prove brand identity or safety |
Record what was actually read
Save the fetched URL, date, exact mapping or link field and access method. If only a search excerpt was available, label it that way. A successful page fetch that contains only an application shell has not established a collection mapping.
Resolve contradictions before publishing
If an official page lists an invalid-length address or two variants are conflated, do not repair the string from memory. Find another official mapping or leave the entry out. The directory follows this standard and labels the selected variant on every page.
Common pitfalls
- A verified source tab is not an audit or endorsement.
- Related collections can share branding while using entirely different contracts.
